Alpine Mountaineering

Alpine mountaineering includes snow climbing using ice axe, and crampons, as well as variation routes which require rock climbing skills to get to a summit.

Winter Mountaineering Trips

All beginner trips will include instruction on ice axe and crampon use as well as necessary skills like how to self arrest in the event of a fall.  Intermediate and advanced routes are limited to 2 people, and beginner trips are limited to 5.  You will be responsible for your personal equipment, including ice axe, crampons (8 - 12 points depending on the route), and winter clothing.  Technical climbing equipment such as helmets and harnesses are included.  All transportation and mountain hut or tent costs are your responsibility.
Yatsugadake - There are beginner routes here as well as intermediate and advanced routes that include mixed snow and rock climbing.  These are 2 day trips.

1 person: 25,000  2 people: 20,000 each. 3-5 people: 16,000

December - March

Nishi-Kabe Shuryo on Akadake's West Wall

Nishi Hotaka - This is a great 2 day beginner mountain in the North Alps with a good portion of the climb taken care of by a cable car.  

1 person: 27,000  2 people: 22,000 each. 3-5 people: 18,000

December - April

Oku Hotaka - This is a 2 day upper beginner mountain, and you need to have basic snow climbing skills to be able to do this trip.  There will be mixed snow and rock climbing near the summit.  This is the 3rd highest peak in Japan.

1 person: 27,000  2 people: 22,000 each.

Early November - Mid December.  and May.

Yarigadake - This is a 3 day 2 night North Alps adventure that will teach you the basics of snow climbing.  Yari is considered to be the Matterhorn of Japan, and when you see it you will understand why.  Even though it is a smaller it does offer a nice beginner challenge.

1 person: 32,000  2 people: 25,000 each. 3-5 people: 20,000
