Ogawayama is one not just one of the best rock climbing areas in Japan, it is also a great base camp for other adventures. This trip will involve hiking, optional scrambling, BBQ, camping, slacklining, and more. We are also timing this trip to hit the peak of the fall colors in the valley, and the colors are definitely amazing.
We will meet up Friday night at Hanno and spend the night in Hiker's B&B, so we can get an early start and beat the holiday traffic to the mountains.
Saturday, we'll spend the day enjoying the camp ground area going for a hike up to the top of some of the rocks with great views, practicing balance on the slack-line, and have a big dinner cooked over the camp fire. The hike would be less than 5km but the views are definitely spectacular with some fun rock formations to scramble up as well. Dinner will be prepared over the fire and we'll also be able to roast marshmallows.
We are going to head up to the summit of Kinpu-san, one of the 100 famous mountains of Japan. The hike is moderate level, and there may be some snow near the top, but hard to predict with this year's weather, but we'll provide the crampons for you to do the climb at no additional charge. The views from the top are a great 360 degree view of the Southern Alps, and makes a great place for a summit picnic before descending.
In the morning we'll have a beginner's rock climbing session to do a few hours of easy top-rope climbing. All gear is provided, and there are climbs available for any level.
After packing up all our gear, we'll hit the road and head back to Tokyo.
