About Us

David has been leading and teaching outdoor adventure activities since 2001. He received a degree in Outdoor Experiential Education from Appalachian State University in 2003. Since then he has continued to work in the outdoor recreation field, including working with the Northwest Adventure Center in Fort Lewis, Washington where he started a rock climbing and caving program. He has lead activities which include sea kayaking, rock climbing, mountaineering, caving, hiking, backpacking, and international trekking. He is trained in wilderness medicine and has worked on an ambulance as an EMT.
Certifications and specific experience
-Wilderness First Responder - Remote Medical International
-Single Pitch Rock Climbing Instructor - American Mountain Guides Association
-Sea Kayaking - Taught numerous courses in sea kayak rescue, kayak roll clinics, and has lead numerous multi-day trips in the Pacific Northwest and Asia.
-Backpacking and Treking - Led many wilderness expedition trips throughout the world, and international treks in Yunnan China, and in the Khumbu region of Nepal.
Tetsuya Hikita - Assistant Instructor: Tetsuya grew up in Osaka and moved to the Kanto area for University. He has been climbing mountains since a young age, and is continuing to take on new challenges and climb higher and more difficult mountains. Currently he is working as a hiking guide and will also be leading groups on Mt. Fuji this summer. His personality and knowledge of Japanese mountain culture make him a great asset to our program.
