9/10 (Sat) Aka-dake Hike
9/11 (Sun) Aka-dake Hike

Aka-dake is the highest peak of the Yatsuga-dake range and one of the 100 famous mountains of Japan.  We are doing a loop route on this trip to keep things interesting.

Our route will start by heading up Kita-sawa walking along a scenic mountain river as the views of the high peaks gradually open up on the way to Aka-dake Kosen hut where we'll take a short break and refill water if needed. After this we'll start our climb up towards the summit going up the Jizo-Ridge which features some easy scramble sections but great views along the way once we pass above tree line. Once we reach the summit ridge it will be a short walk up to the summit where we'll take a short lunch break before heading down the Bunzaburo Ridge down to Gyosha-koya for one more break before heading down Minami-sawa back to the van.

After the hike we'll make a short drive to a local cafe in Fujimi Village which specializes in wood fired pizza and craft beer.  Your first beer or soft drink is on us!
