February Adventures
2/11 (Sat) Iori Frozen Waterfall Snow Hike or Snowshoe
We are heading to Oku-Nikko to hike in from Senjogohara to a little known area of the Iori frozen waterfalls (庵滝). The distance hiked is 13.5km total in the day with 300 meters of elevation gained and lost. Due to the distance, this keeps the crowds away compared to other frozen waterfalls in the area. The falls up here tend to be a bright blue color. Although a long distance, the majority of this hike is flat and we will use crampons or snowshoes depending on the snow conditions. 10,500円 (+tax) (Transportation and crampon or snowshoe rental included) Hiking Level: 1B |
2/18 (Sat) Utsukushigahara - Snow Hike
Utsukushigahara (美ヶ原) is one of the 100 famous mountains, and is generally quite crowded due to easy access in summer time. We have discovered a great winter route that takes us from forest up to the treeless alpine terrain in one day. This is a great introductory winter hike, not requiring any special gear, just 3 season hiking boots. 2/23~26 (Thu~Sun) Tohoku Powder Heaven Adventure
This is going to be Kanto Adventures' biggest ski trip yet! We are heading to Iwate and Akita Prefectures to get away from the tourist crowds and ski some of the best powder resorts in the country. Appi, Geto Onsen, Amihari Onsen, and Tazawako. We will be basing ourselves in Morioka for 3 nights in the city where there are great beer and sake breweries. March Adventures
3/4 (Sat) Aka-dake Winter Mountaineering Ascent
Aka-dake is the highest peak of the Yatsugatake range and a great alpine climb with some exciting steep sections and exposure, but still very doable for those who have had previous snow climbing experience with ice axe and crampons. We will be ascending via the Bunzaburo ridge and descending the Jizo ridge making a loop over the peak. Trip departs Friday night and we have booked the bunk house near the trailhead for a comfortable night sleep on Friday to get an early start on Saturday. 3/11~12 (Sat~Sun) Izu Jogasaki Rock Climbing Weekend
Come spend the weekend on the coast of Izuclimbing the cliffs on the Jogasaki coast right next to the ocean. We will visit two different climbing areas on this trip including Akane-no-hama and Funamushi rock. There will be all kinds of different climbing available including face climbs, crack climbs, and overhangs to work on improving your skills. All levels are welcome on this trip. 3/18~19 (Sat~Sun) Shichimen Mountain Overnight Hike and Temple Stay
We've put together this trip to a mountain temple in the Southern Alps. This is one of the only mountain temples in Kanto that this kind of opportunity exists. Participate in evening and morning services, eat 2 shojin meals, and see the Diamond Fuji sunrise behind Mount Fuji. 3/26 (Sun) Gunma Hotaka - Intro to Snow Mountaineering
Gunma Hotaka is an amazing beginner level snow climb starting at the top of Kawaba ski area and climbing along a beautiful snow ridge over multiple sub peaks until reaching the pyramid summit. We will review the basics of crampon and ice axe use before starting the climb and hone those skills throughout the day. European Adventures
7/1~7/9 (Sat~Sun) Aosta Valley - Matterhorn Alta Via 1 Trek
We have put together an amazing deal for a one week trip trekking in the Aosta Valley in Northern Italy on the border with Switzerland. More specifically we will be trekking next to the Matterhorn and near other giants such as Monte Rosa and Mont Blanc. The trek we will be doing is a one way hike in the village of St. Andre' near Aosta and finishing in the village of St. Jacques just below the Matterhorn. This highest point of the hike is 3,394 meters on the 3rd day of the trek.
