This is a great upper moderate level 2C overnight hike good for fit beginners and experienced people looking to spend the weekend backpacking in the North Alps. This hike features one of the best summer climbs of North Alps to the top of one of 100 famous mountains and an amazing ridge hike on day 2 with a gondola descent.
We have booked mountain hut space for everyone joining this trip, camping is an option if campsites are available. Overnight fees are not included in the trip price and you will pay on check in.
Hut with two meals: 15,000 yen
Hut with no meals: 11,000 yen
Camping: 2,000 yen
This trip will meet on Friday night in Ikebukuro and we will stay at a road station closer to the mountain so we can get an early start on Saturday and beat all the traffic to the mountains.
Saturday:
Total hiking distance is just under 6 km this day but there will be about 1,500 meters of elevation gained. This is a beautiful hike and we will take it at a slow moderate pace to appreciate the mountain scenery. The greatest feature of this day will be climbing up the Daisekkei (大雪渓), a year round permanent snow field. This part is not technical or steep, but 4 or 6 point crampons are needed for this.
Sunday:
Day 2 of our trek is fairly relaxed with minimal elevation gained and lost. We will head North across the summit of Shirouma and continue towards Tsugaike passing by a beautiful alpine lake and summit Hakuba Norikura-Dake along the way. The majority of the descent will be via gondola or ropeway making this very gentle on the knees. A hot spring is located just at the bottom of the Gondola.
