Asama-yama (浅間山) is one of the 100 famous mountains and is located in Nagano prefecture just past the border from Gunma. Due to it's location, it is not easy to reach by public transport as a day trip, but we are making it easy for you.
The hike is just under 14km total and 1000 meters of elevation is gained and lost on this out and back hike. The hike will start out in a forest and we will gradually gain elevation heading up into a valley just below the main summit cone of Asama. As we climb higher we go through the evergreen zone, and eventually working our way into the alpine zone above tree line. The summit is wide with 360 degree views of all of the Japanese Alps, the Kanto Plain, and Fuji-San on a good day.
This route is not very technical but there is a lot of loose rock and gravel near the summit as it is an active volcano so care needs to be taken especially during the descent.
We will stop by a hot spring on the way back if time allows.
