We have put together an amazing deal for a one week trip trekking in the Alps of Austria. The Eagle Walk is a 413 km scenic trail traversing the Alps in the Tyrol region. On this trip we will head to the Karwendel Mountains to hike sections 8~12 of the trail. This area features beautiful alpine meadows, lakes, and high craggy peaks inside Austria's largest nature park. Every night of this trip we will be staying in historic alpine mountain huts and spend the days trekking in this amazing scenery. The trek ends in Innsbruck, a famous city with a long history and surrounded by the Alps.
This hike never goes over 3,000 meters so there is no need to worry about altitude sickness or acclimatization.
Meals are not included, but all of the mountain huts serve food either from a menu or you can choose a "mountaineer's option" for 2 meals for 8 Euros.
Schedule
July 1 (Sat) - 1:55 p.m. - Flight departs from Haneda airport to Beijing - We will have a few hours in the evening in Beijing with an opportunity to head out for a nice dinner before our night flight
July 2 (Sun) - 1:10 a.m. - Flight departs from Beijing to Munich
5:30 a.m. - Arrive in Munich and grab a nice European breakfast at a local cafe' then it's a 2 hour drive to Maurach in Austria the starting point of our trek.
We will spend the day relaxing in the Maurach area which features the largest alpine lake in Tyrol as well as plenty of sightseeing opportunities including a cable car to some local peaks and more. We will spend the night at Pension Garni Christina which has a restaurant and Monday's breakfast is included.

July 3 (Mon) - Trekking - Marauch to Lamsenjochhutte
Distance: 17km - Elevation Gained: 1,030m Lodging: Lamsenjochhutte This day starts of gentle walking along the southwest shore of the lake and then enters the Falzthurntal Valley. From there we move into the Gramaialm Alpine Pasture which has a hut where we will have lunch. The hike continues from here and starts climbing up the valley further to our hut for the night. The hut is situated below an amazing rocky peak and if there is time in the afternoon we might even be able to get in a quick scramble up to the top. |
July 4 (Tue) - Trekking - Lamsenjochhutte to Falken Hut
Distance: 13km - Elevation Gained: 810m Lodging: Falken Hut One of the features of this day's walk is the Eng Alpine Pasture Village which is known for it's famous alpine cheese which we will definitely stop by to try. From the pasture the trail starts climbing up to the ridge line where we will traverse a couple of peaks along the ridge with gentle ups and downs till we reach the Falken Hut for the night. |
July 5 (Wed) - Trekking - Falken Hut to Karwendelhaus Lodge
Distance: 9km - Elevation Gained: 440m Lodging: Karwendelhaus Lodge This is a fairly short day to our hut leaving us plenty of time after arriving for a scramble to the summit of Hochalmkreuz located nearby. The trail this day meanders through various alpine meadows as well as old growth forest sections providing for a nice change in scenery as we make our way further into the mountains. |
July 6 (Thu) - Trekking - Karwendelhaus Lodge to Hallerangerhaus
Distance: 14km - Elevation gained 1,440m Lodging: Hallerangerhaus Lodge This is definitely the hardest day of our trek but also one of the most interesting. The trail starts by climbing from the lodge up to a rocky alpine ridge line. There will be scrambling sections that are protected by cables which you can clip into your harness for additional safety if desired. There will also be a snow field crossing, but nothing technical. This day also heads over the summit and highest point of the trek to the top of Birkkarspitze and then descends down to our hut for the night. |
July 7 (Fri) - Trekking - Hallerangerhaus to Innsbruck
Distance: 13km - Elevation gained 1,150m Lodging: Dollinger Hotel - Innsbruck On our final day of trekking which should take about 5 1/2 hours to complete we'll get an early start. This section will feature some of the best alpine scenery as well as amazing panorama views into the valley of Innsbruck on one side and endless rocky peaks on the other. To save our knees from the pain of a long descent we will take the Nordkette gondola down to Innsbruck, drop off our bags, have a shower and then spend the afternoon and evening exploring and tasting Innsbruck. |
