This trip meets up at 8:30 p.m. on Friday in Hanno with Friday night stay at Hiker's B&B. 2 nights lodging 2 meals and rental equipment all included.
*Both of these routes can be backcountry skied for those with sufficient experience.
On Saturday we will head to the Gran Deco ski resort and make use of the lifts to head up to the top of the resort and begin a climb of Nishi-Azuma. This is not a steep climb, but gradually gets up over the tree line with some great views possible and in some years snow monsters are still around in April. We will practice some basic climbing skills for those who have not been out this season with ice axe and crampons. Lunch will be at the hut near the summit. Route will descend back the same way we came.
Saturday night we will be staying in a mountain lodge and have a nice evening socializing and telling adventure stories in the cabin. Sunday will also feature a hot breakfast and Coffee.
On Sunday, we head to the Urabandai Ski area which will be closed so no lifts for us this day. We have about 10km of walking to do this day starting by climbing up the ski resorts. The route is a partial loop route heading by the yellow waterfalls, and alpine lake, and old volcanic crater. Total elevation gained this day is about 1,100 meters. The upper part of the mountain features some great climbing on steeper terrain with 360 degree views. This is a great mountain okay for beginner snow climbers with plenty of hiking experience and good fitness. We will get an early start though so we have ideal snow conditions for the ascent, and make use of some portable sleds to get down the mountain faster.

Our cabin is one of the Sengen Cottages that that has 10 beds in and is a mix of Japanese and Western style. There is a beautiful kitchen, wood stove, nice bath, and all ammenities needed for a night up in the mountains.
