On this trip we are headed to Niigata to try our hand at skiing in powder at a hidden resort near Mt. Hiuchi, and a newly reopened resort in the northern part of Myoko. 3 nights lodging, 3 days lift ticket included.
Saturday and Sunday we will spend 2 days skiing / boarding at Charmant-Hiuchi which is located northwest of the Myoko area close to the Japan Sea and gets huge amounts of snow every year. Last year they were sitting at over 350cm of snow as of February 1st. This resort is difficult to access by public transport helping to keep the crowds away.
One of the main features of this resort is the off piste skiing opportunities as well as the on-piste ungroomed areas comprising 65% of the resort. This is definitely a powder-hound's paradise!!
Our guesthouse, the San-raku Guesthouse, on this trip is just 10 minutes from the resort and we will be staying in private Japanese style tatami rooms reserved for our group. It is located next to an alpine lake with views of Mt. Hiuchi. Meals can be ordered from a local restaurant for 500 yen, they serve both dinner and breakfast, and a beautiful hot spring is a short 5 minute walk away from the lodge. It is also possible to bring some food for cooking your own meals as well as a small kitchen facility is available.
On Monday, we are heading to the Lotte Arai resort which is opening anew this December after being closed for 11 years. They have upgraded all the lifts, added new ski terrain, and put together some fantastic restaurants and other on slope facilities. 50% of the terrain is ungroomed for all of you powder hounds, and this resort caters for Intermediate to Advanced skiers, though there is still a good offering of beginner terrain. Come check out this new resort before it gets hit with crowds after word gets out of how awesome it is going to be.
Ski / Snowboard Rentals:
We can arrange for a ski and snowboard set to be delivered to the ski resort and rental prices cost between 2000~3000 yen per day for board and boots set depending on the quality level.
After the trip, we will drop everyone off in Ikebukuro station to make their way home.
