We have put together an amazing deal for a one week trip trekking in the Dolomites along the border of Austria and Italy. The Alta Via 2 is one of 8 routes that traverse the length of the Dolomites range, and this route is a bit more challenging than Alta-via one keeping the crowds away. On this trip we will head to the Dolomites and hike from Alta Badia across the Sella Massif to a beautiful lakeside resort at Marmolada. This area features beautiful alpine meadows, lakes, and high craggy peaks inside the Puez-Odle Natural park. Every night of this trip we will be staying in historic alpine mountain huts and spend the days trekking in this amazing scenery. The trek ends with a night at the Marmolada mountain resort area where we will spend our last night before heading back to Munich.
This hike never goes over 3,000 meters so there is no need to worry about altitude sickness or acclimatization.
Some meals are included and listed below, but huts without included meals, you may order off the menu. The mountain cuisine is amazing and you will not go hungry on this trek.
**Please note there are some cable sections on this trek with some mild exposure but nothing more difficult than what you would find in the North Alps like on Yari-ga-dake. From the huts there are some optional hikes available including hikes that require Via-Ferrata which involves using cables, and pins in the rock to climb. We will provide harnesses and helmets for anyone who wishes to try any of the Via-Ferrata routes, but you will be required to purchase a Via-Ferrata set. This set is only required for people who wish to do some of the Via-Ferrata routes.
Schedule
June 30 (Sat) - Depending on flight availability you can either depart from Haneda at 12:01 a.m. and arrive in Munich in the early afternoon and enjoy the city. If you choose this option, transport to central Munich and lodging are not included, but we will help you with logistics.
The other option is to depart from Narita at 5:55 p.m. and arrive in Munich at 7 a.m. on Sunday.

July 2 (Mon) - Trekking - Bressanone to Plose Hut
Distance: 11km - Elevation Gained: 1,900m Lodging: Lodge Plose This day is one of our biggest elevation gains, but it is spread over 11km making for an overall gentle ascent. We start in the center of Bressanone and begin our ascent out of the city and through forest occasionally intersecting ski tracks. Once getting above the ski area it is a ridge walk through meadows with cows and sheep. After arriving at the hut, there is an optional short ascent to the summit of Mt. Telegrafo which stands at 2,486 meters and features a 360 degree view of the entire Dolomites range. *Breakfast included |
July 3 (Tue) - Trekking - Plose Hut to Rifugio Genova
Distance: 13km - Elevation Gained: 610m Lodging: Rifugio Genova This is a short day with only moderate elevation gained, and just 4 hours to reach our next hut. During the hike we will enter the Puez-Odle Natural park, climb through scree and pasture upland. This is where you will begin to feel dwarfed by the surrounding Dolomites and the climbing becomes more interesting. 2 hour ascent of Sass de Putia, the northern-most Dolomite is planned after arriving at the hut. This will involve some via-ferrata sections and is semi-technical. There is also a non technical route to the top of Piccolo Sass de Putia just across from Sass de Putia where the via-ferrata begins. *Breakfast Included |
July 4 (Wed) - Trekking - Rifugio Genova to Rifugio Puez
Distance: 9km - Elevation Gained: 820m Lodging: Refugio Puez This day has a challenging climb up some rocky sections protected by hand cables and eventually works up to the Puez plateau, a rocky area with little vegetation but rich in fossils. From there we climb up to a pass at 2,590 meters via more cables, and down towards the hut where Edelweiss flowers are abundant as well as alpine wildlife. The hut is one of the most isolated huts in the Dolomites with no road access. There are multiple peaks from 2600~2900 meters around the hut including some with via-ferrata sections which take 1.5~2.5 hours round trip. *No meals included |
July 5 (Thu) - Trekking - Rifugio Puez to Rifugio Pisciadu
Distance: 9km - Elevation gained 660m Lodging: Rifugio Pisciadu This day starts out relaxing as we continue to cross the Puez plateau. Numerous alpine lakes dot the surface. Then we descend to Passo Gardena wone of the most beautiful Dolomite road passes. From there we have to climb up a grade 3 section involving scrambling and cables to go through a deep gully to reach Rifugio Pisciadu which is surrounded by vertical peaks. Numerous side trips are available from the hut from easy to difficult. There are also ferrata routes to the top of Cima Pisciadu which stands at 2,985 meters. *No meals included |
July 6 (Fri) - Trekking - Rifugio Pisciadu to Rifugio Marmolada
Distance: 14.5km - Elevation gained 710m Lodging: Rifugio Marmolada On our final day of trekking we are doing an awesome section that includes rocky lunar landscapes, lush alpine flowered slopes, and the Marmolada glacier at the end. The route climbs up to nearly 3,000 meters where there is an optional quick side trip to the summit of Piz Boe which sits at 3,152 meters and would be the highest point on this trek. From there we are mostly descending making are way to the village of Marmolada which has a glacier fed lake and amazing views. Swimming in the lake or going for a day hike to the glacier are all options at the end of the trek. *No meals included |
