Goryu is an amazing massive peak in the heart of the Northern Alps. It is the 44th highest mountain in Japan at 2,814 meters, but is definitely a truly enjoyable hike. Total hiking distance on this route is 18km over 2 days with approximately 1,300 meters of elevation gained and lost.
On Saturday we still start out early by taking the Gondola up to 1,500 meters where we will start our hike. From there it is 6 km up a gentle ridge to our hut / campsite for the night. Time and weather allowing there is an option for a side trip up to the summit of Daikoku-dake (大黒岳) a rocky peak just to the north of our campsite. Expect to eat a tasty dinner with dessert and then watch the sunset over the Northern Alps.
On Sunday, we will get up before breakfast and sunrise and head up to the summit to enjoy an amazing Alps sunrise. After sunrise we will head back down and have breakfast then pack up the gear and get off the mountain early to head to a hot spring and get back to Tokyo before the traffic gets bad.
