Our Hiker's B&B in Hanno has been open for nearly 3 years and we are going to celebrate with a party to celebrate living and working in the mountains and enjoy the amazing spring flowers in the area. We have also planned a long ridge hike which features some of the great mountain scenery of Oku-Musashi
Saturday's Hike - The group with gather at Koma station (高麗駅) and we will start our hike up next to the Koma river heading through a lovely small village. From there we will enter the mountains and climb up through the Hiwada-yama pilgrimage route up to the summit. There is an optional scramble route to the get to the top, or a more gentle path as well From this summit our long ridge traverse along the Oku-Musashi Nature trail will start. There are numerous shrines and other historical remnants throughout the hike, as this area has history going back to the Kamakura era (1185–1333). This hike will feature numerous peaks along the way some with great views of Mt. Fuji and the surrounding area, gradually gaining overall elevation as we move up and down to Kaoburi-toge (顔降峠) which has amazing views of Fuji and lots of spring flowers. From there it's a short walk to the B&B where your choice of craft beer or wine is available and an amazing hiker's dinner will be awaiting.
Distance: 13km Elevation Gain: 700M
Sunday's Hike - After an early breakfast we have a big day of hiking planned. We will continue along the main ridge of the Hanno Alps, gradually gaining more elevation topping out at the summit of Maruyama at 962 meters. There will be numerous vistas along the way including Kanhashu Miharashi Dai (関八州見晴台) and Tsutsuji Mountain (つつじ山). There should be tons of flowers out as this will be the peak of spring in the area. Lunch will be at one of the peaks along the way. From the summit of Maruyama we make a descent down to Shomaru Station so everyone can head home. There is a hot spring stop possible along the way back as well for those who want.
Distance: 17km Elevation Gain: 650M Elevation Lost - 800M
The Menu:
Saturday Dinner: Dutch oven meat and veggies, soup, salad, garlic toast, dessert, and more.
Sunday Breakfast: Scrambled Eggs, root hash, biscuits and mushroom gravy, and spinach. Of course we will have plenty of coffee to go around as well.
You are welcome to bring your own beverages, but we will also have craft beer available for sale as well as a selection of mixed drinks and wine.
*Please note we are in a very dry season and our water supply is limited, so showers on Saturday have to be kept very short and we need everyone to conserve water.
