3/10 (SAT) Ichinokura Snowshoe and BBQ Trip

This trip will take us up to one of the most scenic alpine valleys in Japan, and home to a long alpine climbing history. The walk is not strenuous, following a river most of the way before climbing out of the river valley up into Ichinokura.

In total the hike is approximately 7km with a total of 200M of elevation gained. The riverside walk is very peaceful, and this valley is home to a large population of Kamoshika (Japanese Serro) as well as monkeys, so there is a good chance of seeing some wildlife on this walk.

What makes this trip unique is we are planning to prepare a couple of sleds to carry up a BBQ grill and food to grill up for lunch during the snowshoe trip.

The trip will finish off at one of our favorite hot springs Suzumori-no-yu with an outdoor bath in the snow, and a reasonably priced restaurant selling local grilled river fish and mushroom tempura.

Snow boot rentals are available for 1,000 yen per pair.
