This trip is a partial loop hike starting out in the Senjogahara plains then heading deep into the forest to access a little known set of deep blue frozen waterfalls after a short steep climb. The waterfalls are known as Iori Falls (庵滝) and there are multiple ice formations coming off the cliff side and dropping into a pool at the base.
Overall this hike is not difficult though plan to cover a total of 13.5 km over easy terrain during the day. If there is a lot of new snow we will opt for snowshoes, otherwise we will hike using crampons, and these will be provided for no extra cost.
We often see rabbits and deer during winter in this area so beyond great winter scenery, wildlife viewing is also possible.
After the hike we head to Yumoto Onsen to warm up before heading back home.
