All technical climbing equipment will be provided on this trip (harness, climbing shoes, and belay device). Saturday night lodging is included. Dinner will be at a local brewery specializing in seafood dishes, and breakfast will be convenience store or something you pick up at the super market the night before.
Beginners are welcome on this trip and more experienced climbers will find plenty of challenging routes as well.
The climbing will take place on sea cliffs that will be right next to the ocean. It is quite an amazing location where you can truly experience where sea and mountain meet. The climbs that we will attempt will range from 5.6 - 5.10 in difficulty, and there will be quite a few cracks available to work on some new climbing techniques.
Saturday will be a full day of climbing so please be prepared to spend the entire day outside climbing by the sea, though even in winter this area tends to stay warm. We will head to Funamushi rock to practice crack technique and work on top-roping skills for those who have not done much climbing before. This area also features 'Purple Shadow', a short but super fun 5.8 jamming and lie-back route with some overhangs to keep it interesting. Some people say this might be one of the best 5.8's in Japan.
Saturday evening we will head to a local brewery that specializes in local seafood as well.
Sunday we will head to a different climbing area, most likely Aka-ne-no hama which has some longer routes that mix in face climbing with crack climbing, as well as some overhangs for those looking for a serious challenge. We plan to depart around 3 p.m. so that everyone will have a chance to arrive back at their homes at a decent hour.
