It's time to celebrate the end of a great hiking and climbing season, and time to welcome winter which brings us a whole lot of new adventures. This trip features a stay at our new Hiker's B&B in Hanno, a great international Christmas themed menu meal complete with glazed ham and dessert, and a hike to work off all that food on Sunday. This will be a trip to enjoy great company, eat good food, and relax in the mountains.
The cabin has great amenities including a huge kitchen, great wood stove, tons of space, outdoor decks and balcony, and a hot showers for everyone's enjoyment.
The Menu:
-American Glazed Ham
-Local Roast Venison
-Austrian Roasted Potatoes and Sauerkraut
-Lots of Seasonal Vegetable Dishes
-German Christmas Cookies
-English Christmas Pudding
-Gluhwein
-Lots More!
(There will also be a special menu for vegetarians.)
Gift Exchange
We are requesting everyone joining to bring a wrapped present or bagged present worth approximately 1,000~1,500 yen. We will place all the gifts under the Christmas tree and then we will do a White Elephant Gift Exchange.
The Hike
On Saturday, we will meet everyone at the train station to pick up any luggage you don't want to carry on the hike, and then everyone will hike together up to the lodge via the shortest route. The total hiking time will take about 90 minutes and you'll get to see a very lovely mountain village and views of Fuji along the way.
On Sunday, we will be able to catch the end of fall colors in the Okumusashi mountains on this hike. The hiking route will drop down through the forest and we will stop by the Kuroyama 3 waterfalls (黒山三滝) which has a long history of mountain worship training as well as Samurai history. From there we will climb back up the mountain and stop by the Heikuro Chaya Teahouse (平九郎茶屋) for lunch. The shop features wild boar nabe, udon, soba, and other great seasonal dishes.
After lunch we will shuttle everyone to either Agano station to head home or to the local hot spring to enjoy a hot bath before heading home, and there are regular shuttle buses from the onsen back to the station. Hiking back to the station is also an option if you'd like.
