Kashimayari (鹿島槍) is a classic pyramid shaped peak in the Northern Japanese Alps. On this trip our plan is to go after 2 peaks, Jiigadake (爺ヶ岳) and Kashimayari. We will carry tents and camp out alpine style, but if there's space we'll have the option for the winter room of the hiut at the saddle between the two peaks.
Friday Night- Fuchu and Fuchu-Honmachi stations then drive out to the mountains with the plan to camp out at a Michi-no-eki close to the trailhead.
Saturday- We'll get up early and after breakfast will pack up our gear and start up the East ridge of Jiigadake. This route starts out steep in the beginning, but them becomes a great ridge line climbing to the summit. After taking some photos it's a short descent to the saddle and the Hie-ike Hut(冷池山荘).
Depending on snow conditions, if there is little to no snow around the start of the climb, we will change to the route to the Aka-iwa Ridge (赤岩尾根) and climb via the summer route until hitting snow on the main ridge. This route would then travel up to Hie-Ike Hut where we could drop off our bags and then run up to the summit.
Sunday- We will wake up early for a quick breakfast and then start up to the summit of Kashimayari. It's a gentle 2.5 km ridge climb up to the summit. Then we head back the way we came and pack up our gear for the descent. After getting back to the van it's a short ride to Yakushi-no-yu onsen where we'll warm up after 2 days in the snow.
