Join us on this trip to get into the holiday spirit in a winter wonderland on the northern side of Yatsugadake. Kita-Yoko-Dake is a very beginner friendly hike with not a lot of elevation gain, but amazing views as a ropeway does most of the work for us getting us up high.
You do need to have appropriate clothing and boots for this hike, and if you have any questions or concerns please get in touch. Our total hiking distance is approximately 6km with 500 meters of elevation gained and lost. Nothing is too steep. We start near the top of the forest in snow covered pines and gradually work our way up above tree line and after walking through an alpine meadow we start the ascent up the main ridge of Kita Yoko. Generally we head to the summit first take some photos, and then drop back down and have lunch in the sunshine out of the frozen near the hut.
After descending we head to a great hot spring with a number of outdoor baths to warm up from the day in the snow.
This hike is fine for people without snow hiking experience, but not good for people who have never hiked or climbed mountains before.
***When you sign up, please include details of the type of boots you have so we can more quickly approve your sign-up. We can also recommend a place to get rental boots in Tokyo if you need.
