Minobu-san, located on the West side of Mt. Fuji is a long history as a sacred place and is also the headquarters of the Nichiren Sect of Japanese Buddhism. Our hike will start from the Kuonji temple which has been here since the 13th century. We have timed this trip to go at the peak of the sakura which decorate the area surrounding the main temple complex.
The hike is a loop hike that will head up the West ridge passing by a number of mountain side temples and sacred trees. From the summit we'll have the chance to see an amazing view of a snow covered Mt. Fuji. The descent trail will be along the East ridge passing another mountain temple and ending at the main temple complex which we'll have time to explore before heading to a hot spring.
Total hiking distance is just under 10km with an elevation gain of 650M making for a rather relaxing non-technical hike.
