Naeba-yama (苗場山) is famous as a ski resort, but it is also one of the 100 famous mountains of Japan (百名山). There should be plenty of wildflowers in bloom up on the high ridges and great views all the way to the Japan sea are possible if the weather is good. We start at a pretty high elevation over 1,000 meters so the entire hike will have nice cool temperatures.
Our route is the Akasawa route which starts out in the forest and gradually climbs up into the alpine area with 360 degree views and alpine lakes. Total distance is about 9.5km with 850 meters of elevation gained and lost. We plan to have lunch on the top and then reverse our route to head back down the mountain.
After they hike we'll stop by a local hot spring to relax before making the drive home.
