Ogawayama is one not just one of the best rock climbing areas in Japan, it is also a great base camp for other adventures. This trip will involve hiking, rock climbing, dutch oven cooking, camping, slacklining, and more.
Friday Night
We will meet up Friday night in Fuchu and head straight for the mountains. We'll need to set up camp in the dark, but we'll also get a camp fire going and won't need to get up super early on Saturday.
Saturday
Saturday, we'll have a great camp breakfast and then make a short walk to the Phoenix Rock, where we'll spend about half a day learning the basics of rock climbing and just have some fun on some easy to moderate routes. There are also some more difficult routes available for experienced climbers. After we get our fill of climbing,we'll go for a short loop hike to checkout the Karasawa waterfall and then head back to our campsite for a dutch oven dinner.
Sunday
We are going to head up to the summit of Kinpu-san, one of the 100 famous mountains of Japan. The hike is moderate level and ascends from a river valley gradually getting steeper passing through various alpine zones until hitting tree line about 30 minutes below the top. The views from the top are a great 360 degree view of the Southern and North Alps, and makes a great place for a summit picnic before descending.
After packing up all our gear, we'll hit the road and head back to Tokyo. There are showers and a hot bath available for a small fee in the campground.
Campground Notes
-Limited number of tents are available, and some rental camping gear available, please request when you apply
-Shower and Hot bath are available at the camp ground for a small fee
