Ryogami-san is one of the 100 famous mountains of Japan, and we will be climbing one of the classic routes on the mountain, the Hinata Gorge Route (日向大谷).
This route starts out in a cedar and cypress forest but gains ground quickly to reach the Hacho pass and the start of the fun climbing section.
This route features 27 different chain sections, some short, some long but nothing super exposed and is a great introduction to level 3 climbing with Kanto Adventures for those who are confident with level 2 climbs.
The route is a loop route and the descent route is along a much gentler ridge but is not marked on any maps. Total distance is 8 km with 700 meters of elevation gained and lost.
Check out the photos from last year's hike
After the climb we'll head to a hot spring to relax and warm up after a tough day on the mountain before heading home.
**Please note after this climb, the drop off point will be Hanno Station in Saitama Prefecture, approximately 40 minutes from Ikebukuro. Due to Sunday evening traffic this is absolutely the fastest way to get everyone home after the climb.
