For the September Holiday weekend we are keeping the 3 day weekend schedule flexible to work with weather and will head out for a 2 day hike to Tekari-dake one of the most difficult to access mountains in Honshu at the bottom of the Southern Alps. Due to Covid19 all huts will be shut down as well as all bus services running in the area meaning in comparison to the North Alps where things will be operating, it should be extremely quiet.
*September 20th (Mon) is reserved as well in case we need to shift the trip date due to weather so please make sure you are available all 3 days 18th~20th.
This is a big hike covering 15km each way with over 1,600M of elevation gained and lost each day. The hike is not technical but you will need to be fit as we will be carrying everything we need for the 2 days on our backs.
Friday Night:
The drive to the trail-head is a bit far, so we will be meeting up at 7:30 p.m. the night before the trek in Fuchu, and then make the drive out. You should have all your lunch and snacks prepared in advance as there are no shops in the area near the trailhead. We will camp at a Michi-no-eki (道の駅) about 30 minutes from the trailhead.

Saturday:
This is a very big hiking day covering 15km and 4 peaks along the way. The trailhead is around 1,050M and we will be climbing all the way up to 2,588M with some dips along the way making for over 1,600M of elevation gained in a day. This is a ridge hike the entire way steep at times, gaining the majority of elevation in the first 8km. From there roll up and over multiple peaks to get to our goal Tekari where we will set up camp for the night with open views of the sky.

Sunday:
We'll get an early start and do a quick traverse over to hit one additional peak before descending, Izarugadake (イザルガ岳). This is an open wide summit with 360 degree views of the South Alps and Mt. Fuji. After grabbing our gear we head back down familiar terrain making quick time back down all of the previous day's walk to get back to the trailhead around lunch time. We'll make a short drive out and hit a hot spring to clean up along the way back home. The plan is to get everyone back to Fuchu by 7 p.m. |
Notes
There will be no serviced huts available during this trip. There will be no opportunities to buy any supplies on the trail. The campsite also has a clean emergency hut available if we need to get out of bad weather. You will need to be able to carry 2.5 to 4L (depending on your consumption level) of water as the mid point water source sometimes runs dry.
