The Nishi-Kuro Ridge on Tanigawa is an amazing ridge climb up the side of Tanigawa, one of the 100 famous mountains of Japan. It starts in the forest and transitions through various zones eventually leaving the trees behind and moving into true alpine territory. There are scrambling and chain sections along the way to keep things interesting.
This is definitely not an easy climb, but with a planned early start we will not have to feel rushed. We should also have some great fall color viewing opportunities in the lower part of the valley, and we will start climbing up from the Ichino-kura Valley and then traverse over to the Nishi-Kuro ridge to get the best views possible on this trip.
This is a one way hike that ends with a gentle descept back to Tenjin-Daira where we take the ropeway down.
After the hike, we'll stop by a hot spring to relax before making the drive back to Tokyo
