Tateshina-yama is one of the 100 famous mountains and is located on the west side of the Yatsugadake range. Due to it's location, it is not easy to reach by public transport as a day trip, but we are making it easy for you.
The hike is just under 8km and 700 meters of elevation is gained and lost on this loop hike. The hike will start out in a birch forest and we will drop down a bit of elevation to get to a valley that we will climb up along to the summit. As we climb higher we go through the evergreen zone, and eventually working our way into the alpine zone above tree line. The summit is wide with 360 degree views of all of the Japanese Alps, and an up close view of Yatsu-ga-dake.
The descent route will be along a more gentle ridge with great views including some views of the Futako (Twin) Ponds nearby and the surrounding area.
On the way back we will visit Kosai-no-yu located at Tateshina Onsen which features 6 different natural hot spring baths to relax in after the climb.
