Tengu-dake is actually two peaks on the northern side of Yatsugatake. We have added this moderate hike that gives you a taste of what the Japanese Alps has to offer. This hike is not technical requiring minimal scrambling, but gets you up into the alpine zone where the views are amazing.
**Sunday 7/10 is also reserved in case of bad weather on Saturday so please try to keep both days available in your schedule.
We will be climbing up the West Ridge starting at Karasawa Onsen gradually making our way up to higher elevation where the environment changes significantly as we go higher. We reach tree line around 2,400 meters and then will have a challenging rocky ascent to the final peak of West Tengu. After taking a short break we then make the short walk across to East Tengu completing the double peaks. From there it's about a 30 minute walk down to the Kuroyori Hut where we will stop for lunch. Hot lunch and good coffee are available from the hut.
After lunch it's about a 90 minute walk through gentle forest trails of old growth trees to get back to Karasawa Onsen which has amazing natural hot spring water and very traditional wood baths to end the day.
We are timing this hike to hit the early end of wildflower season as well so this hike really has everything.
