This route on Togakushi features some awesome scrambling as well as a thrilling knife ridge with just enough danger to keep things interesting. Chains are in place protecting all of the exposed rock sections. Everyone else will be supplied with a helmet and harness and we will set up a belay rope in sections where it is necessary as well.
Japanese photos and trip report
This trip will depart on Friday night due to the distance, and we will camp out near the Myoko area so we can get an early start before the heat sets in while we are at the bottom of the mountain.
This hike is a loop and the first 4km are relatively flat walking through a forest as we approach the main climbing ridge. The fun climbing begins around 1,800 meters and continues on up to the summit. The peak is at 1,904 meters and we will have lunch their or a but further down the main ridge. There is a water source early on in the descent for those who need as well as a paid toilet booth. The descent is fairly gentle coming down a creek valley and we end back to the starting point.
After cleaning up we'll begin heading home with the plan to get everyone back by 7 p.m.
Friday Night Departure Details
Due to this climb being quite a distance away we have to leave on Friday night and will camp out at a Michi-no-eki Road Station (道の駅) Sleeping bag and mat are required for this, but no tents are needed. Sleeping mats are available for anyone who needs them for no extra charge.
