This is a car camping trip to the Ura-Bandai area in the southern-most part of Tohoku. Fall comes early here, so expect nice cool temperatures. We will be camping out next to a beautiful lake which features a magnificent sunset.
On Saturday, we will depart Ikebukuro early and make the drive out to the Bandai area. Before heading to our campsite we will go for a 6km hike through the Goshiki Numa Swamp which features some beautiful colored lakes with great mountain views. After that we will head to the campsite.
At the camp-site we will set up tents and cook dinner which will feature a dutch oven main dish cooked over a campfire. The evening will be spent sitting around a big campfire sharing stories of our various adventures.
Sunday, we will wake up early and while packing up the tents prepare a traditional camping breakfast of pancakes and bacon. Then it's off to Adatara-yama for a hike. The hike is a loop hike heading up one ridge and coming down another and traversing along the crater rim. There are some amazing views from the top, and the first of the fall colors should be showing around the summit.
After descending, we will visit a hot spring, and then make the drive back to Tokyo.
