This is the ultimate powder holiday, hitting up some of the best unknown resorts over an extended holiday period. 4 nights lodging, 4 days lift ticket included.
If we have good conditions we will head to Geto Kogen for two days as this is just an unbeatable powder destination. Appi is another one we will definitely head to, and then based on conditions we will decide between Hachimantai Shimokura and Amihari Onsen. All resorts have great hot springs available and there will be time to hit up the hot springs before heading back to Morioka for a night out on the town.
Geto Kogen
Geto Kogen gets huge consitent powder dumps and being off the beaten path it is quite empty. There will be plenty of tree skiing and on piste powder options to keep you happy for an entire day. The lifts were upgraded in recent years and is overall a very comfortable resort.
Amihari Onsen
Amihari Onsen is located on the side of Mt. Iwate, and the majority of the resort is above the tree line. Plenty of powder to ski, and if avalanche conditions allow there are some great short climbs for backcountry skiing as well. To make this place even better there is an amazing hot spring at the base of the mountain so you can warm up after spending a day in the deep powder.
Appi Kogen
Appi Kogen is one of the largest ski resort in the Tohoku region and is aiming to be a more modern resort these days.
For the 2022-2023 season, the Appi Gondola remains open, along with three quad lifts and two pair lifts. The Vista quad lift is scheduled to open only on weekends and holidays. Despite the dramatic decrease in ski lifts, most of the original terrain remains accessible. (It is unclear if there is a chance that any closed lifts might re-open).
There are five official Tree Run Zones on the mountain: Attack, Bravo, Cruise 1, Cruise 2 and Dragon Tail. Registration is required to use them. Backcountry options are also available.
Hachimantai Shimokura Resort
Hachimantai is a quiet resort on the North side of Mt. Iwate and features northern facing slopes with great powder snow. There are official tree runs as well as plenty of open side country making for a great day of powder skiing.
Lodging
Friday night we will be driving up to Sendai and spending 1 night in the Hotel Grand Terrace Sendai, rooms will be 2 person rooms with twin beds or futons.
Saturday through Monday nights will be spent at Art Hotel Morioka which is a 4 star hotel in the center of the city near the old castle site. Breakfast buffet is available on some of the days we do not have to leave super early. We have reserved a mix of triple and twin non-smoking rooms for 3 days.
Ski / Snowboard Rentals:
We will do what we can to help you arrange rentals in Morioka, but for the last day of skiing you would need to rent at or near the last day's resort.
*Trip departs Friday night from Ikebukuro station
