The Tanzawa Mountains are close to Yokohama and Tokyo, easily accessible by train and bus, but on this trip we are heading deeper into the mountains to West Tanzawa for a great loop hike. On this trip we will be taking the Inukoeji route which is a ridge hike heading over multiple peaks with amazing views of Fuji. The hiking isn't technical, but it does involve about 1,000 meters of ascent to reach the top of the ridge.
From the top of the ridge the trail runs down a ridge to a river valley that descends back to the starting point of the hike finishing the loop. There are some rocky sections on the ridge ascent, but nothing dangerous and it's quite fun, and just challenging enough to keep things interesting.
After finishing the hike, we'll head to Nakagawa-onsen where the fall colors will be at their peak and enjoy the hot springs with great views in the late afternoon.
