Yake-dake is a 2,455M volcanic peak in the North Alps in the Kamikochi area. This hike features 360 degree views from the top including a crater lake and steam vents.
Photos from a previous year's trip
This trip will depart on Friday night due to the distance, and we will camp out near the Kamikochi area so we can get an early start on Saturday. The hiking distance is 7km in total with about 800 meters of elevation gained and lost. The hike starts out at Naka-no-yu Onsen and begins hiking through the forest gradually working up through various alpine zones and eventually getting above tree line.
This is the season when everything in the Alps is coming alive including alpine flowers, as well as Ptarmigan, otherwise known as the Japanese Thunderbird (雷鳥).
After the hike we will spend about an hour at the hot spring at the trailhead and then make the drive back home.
Friday Night Departure Details
Due to this climb being quite a distance away we have to leave on Friday night and will camp out at a Michi-no-eki Road Station (道の駅) Sleeping bag and mat are required for this. If you need rentals we have some available for 1,500 yen.
