This trip is to the Northwest side of Yatsugadake between Kita-Yoko and Tengu-dake. The snow comes early to this area and the scenery is amazing starting out in a spruce forest and gradually moving up to the sub-alpine zone with lots of fluffy snow around. The hike is very gentle with no steep sections and is an overall enjoyable walk.
The goal of the hike is to reach the Shirakoma pond on the main Yatsugadake ridge. Here we will set up a table and benches made out of snow and warm up a great winter strew and festive holiday hot beverages to enjoy for lunch in the mountains. After lunch and snowshoeing back down the way we came, we'll head to a local hot spring to warm up before heading home.,
